The Courage of the Suffragists

One hundred years ago, women in New York State won the right to vote, two years before the passage of the 19th amendment, and after over 80 years of fighting for and demanding suffrage. Now, 100 years later, the League of Women Voters is the living legacy of those women and men who were not afraid to put themselves on the line for
their beliefs.

On Wednesday, November 15, 2017, at 7:00 pm, at the East Meadow Library* – 1886 Front Street, East Meadow, we will hear Rabbi Dr. Art Vernon discuss the Courage of those Suffragists.

Rabbi Vernon is the spiritual leader of Congregation Shaaray Shalom of West Hempstead. He recently served as Director of Educational Development for the Jewish Education Service of North America. He is immediate past president of the Rabbinical Assembly of Nassau, Suffolk and Queens, and a Vice President of the Long island Board of Rabbis. He is currently co-Chair of the Black-Jewish Coalition for Justice.

Everyone is invited to join us. Please feel free to invite friends, neighbors and relatives. Refreshments will be served.

*Please note that the meeting will take place at the East Meadow Public Library. See address above.

Many thanks to Peggy Stein and Mary Price for the impressive display about the Suffragist Movement, (See photo on the left) on display at the Levittown Public Library throughout October.
